I Grew Up and I Love to Read, You?

Did you know I have a book club?

I love to read. Laying in my bed at night with my (very thick) glasses on and most likely Harry Potter socks, I devour pages on pages. I am a real books only type of girl here and I love the smell of a library. I can stay up till 2 or 3 in the morning to finish a read and truly, bask in the glow of turning that final page. The goal achiever in me. And then feel major regret the next morning with a second cup of coffee as a Mama who loves her sleep when she gets it. But the books still win.

I fell in love with Mary Oliver the past two years. I realize I am a late bloomer in the land of poetry and yet in my life, I am right on time to be able to receive her words. I carry her compilation ‘Devotions’ around with me often, as seen here in my grown up photo. I do feel grown up and serious about books. I like it, a part of me I am still being introduced to.

I will leave you with an invite to join my online book club, Novel Grapes and a poem by the late Mary O.

The Journey

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice--
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do--
determined to save
the only life you could save.
